The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has confirmed the death of a teacher in Odeomu, Osun State.
According to a statement by the Osun NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Adeleke Kehinde, the teacher identified as Okunola K. was crushed to death on January 16 by a driver who was traveling from Ibadan to Osogbo in Osun State. .
The deceased was a teacher at St. Michael Grammar School, Obada, Ode Omu State, along Gbongan-Oshogbo road, and had gone to the market to buy cassava peels.
Mr. Adeleke added that while he was about to ride his motorcycle, a car suddenly rammed into the market, hitting the teacher and killing him on the spot, prompting a strong reaction from the residents.
After the accident, an angry mob gathered and set the driver’s Toyota Corolla on fire as he fled the scene.
Mr Adeleke said: “The vehicle was on its way from Ibadan to Osogbo when the driver lost control due to mechanical failure.The victim was a school teacher in Obada area of Odeom city.
The motorcyclist jumped off the bike and ran away, but the teacher was not so lucky.
Mr. Adeleke further stated that “after the accident on Tuesday, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene as angry residents and bystanders set the vehicle on fire as soon as they confirmed that the victim was dead.” It has been reported,” he continued.

Mr. Adeleke also said that the Osun State NSCDC Commandant, Michael Adalarewa, also urged residents to maintain safe roads in the state through compliance with the law. He said he asked them to assist law enforcement agencies in maintaining the situation. .
He urged motorists to strictly adhere to traffic rules.
