Due to the suspected murder of 54-year-old Abdulahi Yinusa, Monday Odeh is being held at the Nigerian Correctional Service Facility by the Lagos State High Court, which is located in Ikeja.
On Monday, January 15, 2024, Justice Adenike Coker issued the remand order for Odeh following his arraignment on a murder charge that the state had sought against him.
The state prosecutor, Ms. Titi Adeegbe, informed the court during the defendant’s arraignment that the defendant had unlawfully killed Yinusa on April 4, 2019, in the state’s Magodo region.
Prior to the murder, Odeh and Yinusa were Magodo security guards.
The dead and the suspect allegedly got into a fight, according to the pair’s employer Bola Ikupoluyi, who reported the incident to the police station.
Odey was accused by Yinusa of taking the boss’s clothes.
Odey struck Yinusa on the head and face with a shovel during their argument. He died from hitting his head on the floor.
After Yinusa challenged the suspect, the suspect took offense and threatened to murder her. In response, their boss fired Odey and gave him an order to leave the property right away.
That following day, at around seven o’clock in the evening, Odey returned to the house under the pretense of relocating his personal items and killed Yinusa. He fled after disposing of the body in a canal behind their employer’s residence.
On May 2, 2019, Odey was captured in Iwo, Osun State, after he ran away from the scene.
Adeegbe claimed that the offense violated Section 223 of the Lagos State 2015 Criminal Law.
Nonetheless, the accused entered a not guilty plea to the murder accusation brought against him.
The defendant entered a plea of not guilty, and the prosecutor asked the court to set a trial date.
Meanwhile, Mrs Onikepo Braithwaite appeared for the defendant.
Consequently, Justice Coker adjourned the case to February 12, 2024, for the commencement of trial.
