On Thursday night, January 25, three Sevilla supporters lost their lives in a car crash on their way to see their club play Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey quarterfinal.
Spanish media state that the collision happened on the A4 road close to the Despenaperros natural park, which is about 270 kilometers south of Madrid.
“Sevilla is extremely saddened by the loss of three of its supporters’ lives this morning. experiencing a traffic mishap on the way to Madrid for tonight’s match,” the team stated in a statement.
“During these trying times, the club is thinking of their friends and families.” The players will don a black armband to help them remember.
Before the game, Sevilla said they have requested a moment of silence from the Spanish Football Federation.
