Kogi community buries 25 victims killed by suspected herdsmen

25 people who were attacked by suspected herdsmen in the Kogi State town of Agojeju-Odo in the Omala Local Government Area have been buried.

On Thursday, April 4, 2024, two ladies and four children were among the victims who were killed by armed men. At the funeral on Saturday, April 6, Ochala Onu-Ife Bagaji Odo, Omala, Chief David Akpa, the District Head, spoke and referred to the attack as evil and savage.

“We are in grief for our departed loved ones who were brutally murdered. We have never before had any disagreements with herders or bandits,” he was cited by the News Agency of Nigeria as saying.

“As it is now, we are living in fear, more so that we heard that they are coming to Bagaji Odo, where surviving victims are taking refuge. We are pleading with the federal and state governments to come to our aid and protect us from bandits.”

Akpa further disclosed that the attack was the second in 2024 and had created fear among the residents.
