Nigerian man arrested in India for extorting money

A 37-year-old Nigerian man was detained in India on suspicion of obtaining money through blackmailing a woman by threatening to post her offensive images and videos on social media.

Evans, who was residing in Greater Noida and had entered India on a business visa, has been identified as the offender, the police announced on Thursday, January 25, 2024.

“A man had complained to us about his relative allegedly making friends on social media with an anonymous user. “The man deceitfully enticed her and defrauded her of ₹ 2.25 lakh,” stated Hemant Tiwari, Deputy Commissioner of Police (IFSO).

The Delhi Police’s Intelligence Fusion & Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit is a specialized division.

Police further said the accused induced the victim to share her intimate photographs and videos, and later threatened and blackmailed her to extort money.
