Footballer, Sergio Jáuregui is shot dead during match in Mexico

It has been reported that former Bolivian footballer, identified as Sergio Jáuregui has been shot dead while playing a friendly match in the Mexico.

Sergio Jáuregui was shot 6 times by an unidentified attacker at around 11 am local time on Sunday during a friendly game in the Santa Inés neighbourhood in Cuautla, Morelos.

It was revealed that Jáuregui had stepped off the field just to rehydrate for a short moment during the match before the gunman stormed up to him and eventually fired at his victim at a close range.

The shooter reportedly fled the scene on a motorbike that was positioned outside waiting for him at the entrance of the ground.

Even though emergency services and ambulances hastily descended on the scene, they were unable to save the stricken player who had died almost immediately.

Jáuregui spent the majority of his professional career in Bolivia, with the exception of a brief, five-month stint in 2005 when he joined Yverdon-Sport FC, a prominent Swiss league.

He received about 13 caps for his country, but according to Diario AS, he left professional sports in 2015 at the age of barely thirty.
