Gunmen attacked school bus, kidnapped pupils, teachers in Ekiti

Teachers and students from a private nursery school in Emure, the seat of the Emure Local Government Area in Ekiti State, have been kidnapped by gunmen who are suspected of being kidnappers.

At approximately 5 p.m. on Monday, January 29, the gunmen stopped the school bus carrying the students and teachers along Eporo-Ekiti in the Emure region of the state.

Six students, three teachers, and the bus driver were reportedly abducted; their whereabouts are still unknown.

The source stated, “They were abducted after their school bus was stopped on Monday night in Eporo Ekiti, at a place that shares a boundary with Ondo state.”

This incident occurred on the same day that two traditional rulers in the Oke-Ako axis of the state’s Ikole Local Government Area were shot and killed by gunmen.

In response to the kidnapping of several students and their instructors in Emure, Ekiti, the state governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has asked the populace to be optimistic and has assured them that efforts are underway to free the children and their professors. Nothing would be spared in the efforts to rescue the schoolchildren, according to the governor, who called the kidnapping of the students heartless and unacceptable.

The Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode on Tuesday in a statement said security agencies in the state are already on the trail of the abductors with a mandate to bring the pupils and their teachers back safely.
