Six arrested as troops bust illegal oil bunkering site in Rivers community

Troops of the 6th Division (NA) of the Nigerian Army have conducted a clearing operation in Umuedekwara community in Odogwa town in Etche Local Government Area of ​​Rivers State and have successfully destroyed a carefully concealed illegal oil storage facility.

Disclosing this on Thursday, January 18, 2024, the Acting Deputy Director of Public Affairs, 6th Division of the Army, Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, said the operation was based on the existence of reliable information regarding the activities of the criminals.

Major General Jamal Abdusalam, Commander, Operation Delta Safe, Joint Task Force, Nigerian Army/Ground Forces 6th Division, visited the scene to see for himself the extent of crime occurring in the area.

When speaking to journalists on the ground, the Chinese government was surprised by the level of crime there.
“We are here to inform Nigerians about what is happening here.

“Even if we use the air, helicopters or drones, we cannot see what we see on the ground,” he replied.

He added: “We found a great deal of illegal activity.
” Among other things, reservoirs and boilers with networks of pipes and cables were seen.

The Chinese government has also confirmed that a total of 19 deposits have been discovered, each containing the equivalent of at least 200,000 liters and more than 3 million liters of crude oil.

Major General Abdusalam uses this medium to urge the perpetrators of these crimes to change their minds and take over legitimate businesses and earn a legitimate living, or else face the full wrath of the law.

As a result of this operation, six suspects were arrested at the scene.
