AFCON 2023: Nigeria defeats hosts nation Ivory Coast 1 – 0 in second group stage clash

In the second group stage match, the Nigerian Super Eagles defeated the Ivory Coast national team.

After a VAR assessment at the Alassane Outtara Stadium in Abijdan this evening, it was determined that Ousmane Diomande had fouled Victor Osimhen. Troost-Ekong, the captain, scored through a penalty kick.

Nigeria is now behind leaders Equatorial Guinea, who defeated Guinea-Bissau 4-2 earlier on Thursday, and has now passed the Elephants to take second place in Group A.

In their opening match of the AFCON, Equatorial Guinea held Nigeria to a 1-1 draw, while Cote d’Ivoire triumphed 2-0 over Guinea Bissau.

On Monday, January 22, Nigeria will play Guinea Bissau in their last group match.
