Police and military rescue 16 kidnapped travellers in Kogi

Police and military personnel working together successfully freed 16 hostages taken hostage from two cars in Kogi State.

On Sunday, February 25, 2024, the victims were abducted while driving along the Ette-Enugu-Ezike road.

In a statement released on Monday in Lokoja, SP William Aya, the spokesperson for the Kogi State Police Command, confirmed the rescue.

Aya reports that the people who were saved were five people from a Sienna bus and eleven people from a Peace Mass Transit bus. The group had been traveling on the road when the robbers kidnapped them and took them into a nearby woods.

“The Joint Kogi Police and Military team from Enugu State promptly swung into action, trailed and rescued all the victims from the bush unhurt. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects and bring them to deserved justice.”

In his reaction, the Commissioner of Police, Kogi Command, Bethrand Onuoha, commended the Joint security team for their effort.

He reiterated the Command’s unwavering determination to sustain the ongoing onslaught against criminalities in the state.

Onuoha appealed to the people of the state to continue to partner with the police and other security agencies to ensure adequate security of lives and property.
