Kidnappers kill Abuja resident after collecting N23m ransom

Even after they accepted a N23 million ransom, bandits are said to have slain Olayinka Ogunyemi, an Abuja resident.

The deceased is one of the seven people kidnapped from the Kuduru hamlet in the federal capital territory (FCT), according to a Daily Trust report. He was slain when the captives’ relatives refused to give the N290 million that was requested.

The publication was informed by a source that the bandits made a call on Friday, February 23, in order to inform them of the civil engineer’s killing.

According to the source,

The bandits informed us via phone yesterday that they had murdered Olayinka Ogunyemi, an engineer. In the event that the N230 million ransom is not paid, the robbers have threatened to kill the remaining hostages. A one and a half-year-old boy, two siblings, a pregnant mother, and two men are among those who are still in captivity.

“We have paid N23 million, supplied food, and obtained other stuff they requested, yet none of our people have been let free. Because their captors claimed that Nigeria had insulted them, we are pleading with the federal government, the police, and the army to step up efforts to free our people.”
