INEC officials sentenced to 42 years Imprisonment

Two staffs of the Independent National Electoral Commission have been sentenced to 21 years each by Justice Nathan Musa of The Federal High Court siting in Yola, Adamawa State on Thursday, December 12 for collecting bribes.

Justice Musa further instructed Mohammed Adamu, the Inspector General of Police to produce Diezani Allison-Madueke, who is the former minister for petroleum to face prosecution over allegations of she sending N362 to the two convicted INEC staff in order to compromise the 2015 presidential election in Adamawa State.

The two INEC staffs identified as Ibrahim Mohammed Umar and Sahabo Iya Hamman were brought before the law alongside the former Minister of Petroleum for conspiring to defraud the federal government with the intent to compromise the 2015 general elections.

In his statement, the judge further says:

“The offence has a mandatory provision. I’m constrained by the law. They shall be sentenced to seven years imprisonment without the option of fine.
” However in view of plea to temper justice with mercy, I will allow the sentence to run concurrently,”
