I didn’t pour acid on any student though I am a member of Pyrate confraternity- Ize-Iyamu

Ize- Iyamu said he and other students that were linked to the incident were rusticated but were called back after 2 years.
Osagie Ize-Iyamu,one of the candidate contesting for governorship election as a member of All Progressive Congress(APC) for the September 19 in Edo state has denied the accusation laid against him of pouring acid on a fellow student during his undergraduate days at Uniben.
In the year 2016,the ex chairman of the APC and ex governor of Edo state,Adams Oshiomole had alleged Ize to have poured acid on a student.
Debunking the allegation during an online Tv programme in Benin on sunday, July 5,2020,the politician said contrary to the claim,he made the student’s plight known to the management of the school.
He said despite the fact that he made sure the victim got first aid treatment,he and others linked to the incident were rusticated because the culprit’s identity was unknown.
Narrating the incident,he said ” When I was in the university,I was a member of the Pyrate confraternity. At that time,we didn’t look at it as being a cultist but some were already coming in with the aim of creating problems. We had this very confrontational group and one evening,we were told about the incident of a final year student who was close to us that was beaten and they mentioned the names of those who were involved and we said no,this is very bad.
“Don’t also forget too that I was a students’ union leader, very prominent in the students’ union congress. So,myself and some people who heard about the incident said let’s go and see the people involved and talk to them.
“We went there and met the people involved. They opened the door for us and we were discussing the matter under a very cordial atmosphere but sooner enough, there was smoke everywhere and someone started screaming saying acid. It was then I realised that somebody actually poured on acid on the victim and I quickly rushed to the security post. I brought them in and we took the young man to get first aid.
Of course, the school set up an inquiry and the person that was affected testified that I was the one who brought security agents and I was able to take him to get treatment. I asked who poured it and he said he didn’t know.
“He said he recognizes the face but didn’t know his name and nobody seem to know his name and the university said since you all don’t mention the name,we are sanctioning all of you. And before we know, they expelled us.
“The reason they gave was that they expelled us for belonging to a proscribed group. But the point is that we were punished for 2years till 1986 when the senate held a meeting and said these guys have been punished enough, that from the record, they were not the one who committed the crime,so we were called back, graduated and then went to Law School.”
