By - - [ Jobs, online business ]

It is no more a news that Influencer marketing has become a hot marketing term that virtually everyone is talking about. It has become a mainstream marketing tactic and it is obvious that it is no longer limited to a select few brands or agencies.
Are you one of those people who want to become an influencer, if your answer is yes, then I am happy to tell you that you are in the right place. In this article, I will take you through the steps involved in becoming an influencer. So, sit back, grab a cup of coffee and join me as I take you through the path to becoming an influencer.

In this article, we will be covering seven steps involved in becoming a social media influencer, the seven steps are:

1. Selection of Your Niche
2. Optimising Your Profiles on Social Media
3. Scope to understanding Your Audience
4. Creating and Posting Relevant Content.
5. Importance of Consistency.
6. Keeping Your Audience Fully Engaged.
7. Informing Brands Know You’re Open to Collaborations

Step 1. Selection of Your Niche

This is basically the first step you have to take if you really want to become a social media influencer. This simply means that you need to choose a niche that you are interested in and can consistently create content about. Another thing you need to keep in mind is that you need to have some level of expertise in the field to be able to establish yourself as an influencer.

Keep in mind that as an influencer, you will need to keep up to date with the latest information, this means you will have to research and post content in your chosen area of interest. So, it is essential that you choose something you’re passionate about and will enjoy spending your time on. One thing for sure is that researching deeply to get information is not an easy task, so get ready for work.

For example, if you know you are creative and like making stuffs yourself, that may show that you are good in DIY projects, that may prove to be your calling. Don’t ever choose a niche just because a friend of yours chose the same niche, you may tire out along the line and lose interest. One of the advantages of choosing a niche you are passionate about is that even if you didn’t see the result you wanted within the time you expected the result, it will still be easy for you to endure and thus continue with your research because you have passion for it naturally. You could also select a combination of 2-3 interests, but don’t make it too broad.

Step 2. Optimising Your Profiles on Social Media

This step comes after you have successfully chosen your niche, now you will have to select your preferred social media platforms and then create/optimize your profiles. Most influencers are popular on only one or two social media platforms. So, what I am trying to say here is that it is best to focus your efforts on only 1-2 channels.

Once you have selected your channels, you need to either create new profiles or optimize your existing ones. To optimize your social media profile, you might want to consider doing the following things:

Switch to a Business Account
Create an Engaging Bio
Add a Profile Pic and Cover Photo

Step 3. Scope to understanding Your Audience

The third step on your path to becoming an influencer is to understand your target audience. Influencers have sway over their audiences and strong connections with them. That’s due to the fact that they don’t cater to everyone, but only those with similar interests in the same niche.

It is of great importance that you know the audience you are targeting and then do it well to build a loyal follower base. To understand your audience, you can first start by analysing your current follower base to get insights into their demographics and interests.

Step 4. Creating and Posting Relevant Content.

Now let’s talk about creating and posting content. This is a very important part of the steps of becoming an online influencer. One thing is that what will determine if your audience will always come back or not is the value of the content you give to them. This simply means that you need to always post specifically useful post/contents. Always make sure your posts are relevant and effective, make sure your content adds value to your audience.

It is good to always avoid deviating from your main niche just to post about something of no value to your audience, for example, an influencer who is targeting audience in the niche of health should not deviate and start posting news related to politics, one thing is that your audience might not be interested in politics, even they might hate it, now that you have started posting politics news, what will haoppen to your audience, will they continue to follow you? Probably not. The more you are able to engage with your audience, the more people will be influenced by your opinions and recommendations.

You need to formulate a content strategy and use a mix of content types, preferably the ones that your audience will most like.
The bottom line, keep your content strategy focused on your niche, but not too narrow. Think from a long-term perspective and start preparing to be an influencer right from the start.

Step 5. Importance of Consistency.

Another thing is that you need to finalise a posting frequency and schedule. Most social media platforms’ algorithms give preference to accounts that post regularly. This is especially true for Instagram, which requires a regular posting frequency for increased visibility. It is also the biggest influencer marketing platform.

You can choose to post daily, weekly, or at any frequency that you’re comfortable with. You should also consider the platform before deciding on that. Some platforms, like Twitter, are more dynamic in nature and require a higher posting frequency if you want to become an influencer on that platform.

Step 6. Keeping Your Audience Fully Engaged.

The moment you start posting content on social media, you will often get likes and comments on your posts. For an influencer, it is important to connect with their followers, therefore, you cannot ignore these comments.

It is very good to always reply to comments and answer any questions that your followers ask you. You can also just “like” their comments to show your appreciation.

Step 7. Informing Brands Know You’re Open to Collaborations

This is actually the last step in this article, now that you have done all the above six steps, the next and the final step towards your quest to becoming an influencer is to announce it to the world. You need to come out and declare yourself as an influencer who is interested in brand collaborations.

You can do this by writing in your bio that you’re an influencer and are interested in collaborations. You can also provide contact details for potential clients, giving them an easy way to connect with you.

Another way to do this is by doing your own outreach and messaging relevant brands with a pitch on what you can offer. It is best to design an outreach template that you can use to reach out to different brands, as that can save you a lot of time.

There are several influencer platforms where brands and influencers can find each other. You can also use those to find brands in your niche who are looking for collaborations.
